Irish pair on course for global golf final in Dubai

Michael O'Connor from Cork and Matt Twomey from Kildare have been crowned winners of the Audi quattro Cup final held in Fota Island, Cork, on Wednesday, 27 August, writes Trish Whelan.

The pair won the final of the golf competition scoring 47 points and finishing 2 points ahead of runners up Olive Costello and Richie Lee, and 5 points ahead of Richard Daly and Lar Ryan.

O'Connor and Twomey were two of 692 drivers and golf enthusiasts who competed in the seven regional heats of the 2014 quattro cup. They will now go on to represent Ireland in the world final of the Audi quattro Cup in Dubai, later this year.

The Audi quattro Cup is now in its 23rd year and has seen in excess of one million Audi customers tee up on some of the most exclusive greens worldwide. The global heats have seen almost 100,000 golfers play in over 1,000 tournaments in 52 countries across the globe.

O'Connor and Twomey will travel to Dubai in December with the aim of taking the trophy home. Michael O'Connor, from Newmarket in Co Cork is a member of Kanturk Golf club, while Matt Twomey, from Naas, plays in Mount Juliet.
