Chapman Automotive in Britain is leading negotiations on behalf of a group of investors to take over the rights to the MGTF sports car.
The unnamed investors are reported to include a carmaker not based in the UK, along with a wealthy entrepreneur and an investment fund from the US.
If successful, the MGTF would be built for a number of markets, including the US.
