Ford helps golf marathon

by Trish Whelan. A Cork teacher is attempting to establish a new golf record — by playing 32 golf courses in all 32 counties of the island in just 32 days.

This special amateur Tour is in aid of the newly-opened Tigh an Oileáin Centre for learning disabilities in Valentia Island. It will see Peter Grogan travel some 8,000 miles in a Ford Focus TDCi provided by Ford Ireland, as well as a further 150-odd miles on the courses.

Peter is captain of the Christy O’Connor Club in Dublin and Christy himself was on hand at the launch last month to add his support to the cause. The tour started today at Mount Wolseley in Carlow, and finishes 576 holes later at Waterville on the 22nd July.

The brainchild of legendary Kerry footballer Mick O’Connell, the Tigh an Oileáin Centre provides Day, Residential and Support Services to adults with learning disabilities.
