The VW Golf was the biggest-selling single model in Western Europe in 2005, according to the main company that provides automotive statistics here, JATO Dynamics.
At 469,248 units, it was closely followed by Opel's Astra with 464,343 units and Ford's Focus with 410,468. Peugeot's 206 and 307 were in fourth and fifth places, followed by Renault's Megane, Ford's Fiesta and Renault's Clio.
