Nissan is developing a safety feature which causes a car's accelerator pedal to lift by itself to warn of a possible collision.
The technology utilises existing systems which underpin active cruise control, combining radar sensors and the car’s computer.
Any indication of an oncoming crash will automatically raise the pedal against the driver’s foot. If the driver lifts his foot in response, the brakes automatically begin to work.
It will be widely available on Nissan cars in Japan inside three years and it will be also offered in the US and Europe.
