The new 'i6' 3.2-litre petrol engine which will power the second generation Land Rover Freelander is an example of synergy between the members of Ford's Premier Automotive Group brands -- Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover.
The engine was designed by Volvo and is a precursor of a situation where PAG will have nearly interchangeable powertrains by the start of the next decade.
Another example of PAG sharing powertrains is the 4.4- and 4.2-liter V8 engines made in Bridgend, England, for Land Rover and Jaguar models.
The new Freelander will also have a 2-2litre diesel.
