Car sales are up nearly 6 percent for first 6 months of year following an 8 percent increase for the month of June.
This follows two months in which the market was described as 'flat' by Cyril McHugh, Chief Executive of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
Sales of new cars in June totaled 15,547, an 8.14 percent increase on June 2005 (14,377). Overall year to date sales for new cars are 144,933, up 5.84 percent on the first six months of 2005 (136,930).
Sales of Light Commercial Vehicles for the first half of the year (29,210) are up 9.85 percent on the same period last year (26,591).
