The 'SSIA effect' has not kicked in yet to the new car market in Ireland, according to Volkswagen Ireland's Tom O'Connor.
He described the market as 'flat', although the VW brand is driving ahead thanks to good performances from the new-generation Passat and the recently-introduced Jetta.
Many distributors are expecting a boost to sales from the SSIAs, but they only began to mature a few months ago and any significant effect is not likely until the 2007 buying season. In addition, a high proportion of the SSIAs don't mature until next year.
