On our way!

Yes, you’ve noticed. We’re different this issue. It’s something we’ve been planning for quite some time, to extend the interest range of our magazine, first founded as ‘Irish Car’ some 16 years ago.

ictmar07Adding the ‘travel’ component is logical. Because that’s what we all do in our cars. Whether to work or on leisure, once out on the road we’re heading somewhere.

It could be somewhere far away in this ever-shrinking world. Not necessarily doing the whole trip by car, of course — getting to Australia that way could be difficult. But most of us when we reach a destination often rent a car and do some touring in wherever we’ve landed. That said, we also intend to cater for the traveller who just wants to know something about a destination, or a stop off on the way. We’ll also talk to people who travel in their careers, or just for fun.

So you’ll find some quite different articles coming from now on. For instance, Anna McCarthy’s trip through the mountains in Thailand, entertained by the music of ‘The Chieftens’, is a little gem and a signpost of some of the things to come. As is our interview with travelling gourmet Keith Floyd.

We’ll be doing drives, like the one here through North Wales, where we’ll try and give you something more than just the directions. These can be anywhere and everywhere, so watch out for the Silvermines detour in a coming issue, and a run along the fabulous Great Ocean Road in Australia.

We’re not forgetting the cars, though. You’ll still get the top class reviews you’re used to, from our expanding number of top writers. This issue marks ‘Irish Car’ moving further along the road on its own journey.
