The Nissan Tiida has been launched in Ireland at a starting price of 20,995 euros.
The car, first launched in Japan several years ago for the Japanese and Chinese market only was not originally planned as a car for Europe. But success in the Pacific Rim countries, including Australia, encouraged Nissan Europe to bring it in to some markets as a successor to the Almera sedan and hatch.
The Tiida has a class-leading interior space in a package no wider than the car it replaces, with as much passenger room inside as the large SUV Murano.
It comes with a 1.6 litre petrol engine and a 1.5 litre diesel will be available later. An automatic version with the 1.6 litre engine is just 1,390 euros extra.
The basic SE version includes air conditioning as standard. EPS is optional at 850 euros.
Nissan Ireland is expecting annual sales of some 7,000 units of the Tiida. TW.
