The number of new cars sold in May 2007 (20,689) was 17.55 percent up on May 2006 (17,599), while sales for the first five months of the year (138,212) were 7.0 percent up on the same period in 2006 (138,212).
According to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry it is now likely that new car sales this year will reach 190,000, making it the second best year for new car sales after 2000 when over 230,000 cars were sold.
Light Commercial Vehicle sales for the first five months of 2007 (28,821) are up 13 percent on the same period last year (25,508) while Heavy Vehicle sales are down 25 percent (3,153). BB.
