Mercedes-Benz will launch a new generation A-Class at the Liepzig motor show on April 5.
The 'extensively facelifted' car is said to look 'younger' and be more environmentally friendly than the car it will replace, and will include a start/stop system in A 150 and A 170 models, which reduces fuel consumption by up to 9 percent when driving in city traffic.
The car got its world premiere in 1997 and two million have been sold.
Changes include new-look headlamps, a redesigned bumper and radiator grille, and new individual wheel designs.
Mercedes-Benz has also revamped the design and technology of the B-Class, launched three years ago. The four-cylinder engines now burn up to 7 percent less fuel than previously.
