Hyundai-Kia climbs to fifth

The Hyundai-Kia motor group is now in fifth place in the league of world carmakers, a rapid climb from 11th place in 1999.

With global sales of 3,961,629 units in 2007 the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group moved up from sixth place in 2006, according to Automotive News' 2008 Global Data Book

Above it in the rankings are Toyota with 8.9 million sales in 2007, General Motors (8.9m), Volkswagen (6.2m) and Ford (5.9m).
