Lexus introduced the world’s first hybrid SUV in 2005, the RX 400h (below), which continues to have the lowest CO2 emissions in its segment.
This was followed by the GS450h, which is said to have the fuel economy of a regular 2.0 petrol family car. Last year, Lexus introduced the LS 600h
Lexus says that when compared with a conventional comparable engine its hybrid system delivers less CO2 emissions, less nitrogen oxide emissions and less hydrocarbon emissions along with better fuel economy and an all round better performance.
Lexus currently remains the only premium manufacturer producing hybrids. However, almost all premium manufacturers have announced plans to produce hybrids in the next few years.
