3008 in autumn

Peugeot in Ireland will be adding the new 3008 crossover to the offering here in the autumn, initially with just the 1.6 HDI diesel as a power unit.

The car is being aimed at the market dominated by the Nissan Qashqai and competing with the VW Tiguan, Renault Koleos and Ford Kuga.

No prices have yet been set, but will be available closer to the launch in October. Given the current market conditions and the time of arrival, the importers are aiming it as a 2010 model.

Dave McConnell of Gowan Distributors told Irish journalists at the international launch in Dubrovnic that it is a 'conquest' vehicle for Peugeot, targeted at those who may want to come out of MPVs and SUVs and into smaller and more environmentally friendly vehicles.

The 3008 is expected to appeal both to couples with small families and to older people who like a taller car because it is easier to get in and out of.

Specification for the Irish versions will include standard ESP and an electronic parking brake. A 1.6 petrol version is available, but as yet there are no plans to bring it in to Ireland. Some time after launch, an Ecomatique version will be available with an automated manual gearbox.

CO2 emissions for the manual version will be 137g/km, while the Ecomatique version will have 130g/km and matching lower fuel consumption.
