While the next version of the hugely successful Mazda3 will be launched in Europe in June, it won't be on sale here until 2010. And the MPS high-powered version won't be coming at all.
Mazda3 competes in the fiercely contested C-segment, still very popular with Irish buyers. The all-new car will be offered in hatchback and saloon body styles.
Importantly, it means Mazda will have a 1.6 turbo diesel outputting 109PS competing in Band A with a C02 of just 119 g/km. This version is expected to be the volume seller. It uses 0.3 litres less than the current model with a combined fuel return of 4.5 L/100km.
Mazda expect a lesser demand for the 1.6 petrol version producing 105PS and using 0.6 litres less than the previous generation with a combined fuel consumption of 6.3 L/100km (C02: 149 g/km).
Also coming is a new MZR 2.2-litre turbo diesel with high and standard power versions - a 185PS with 400 Nm of torque and a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.6 L/100 (C02: 149 g/km); and a 150 PS with 360 Nm of torque and a combined fuel return of 5.4 L/100 km (C02: 144g/km).
The first generation Mazda3 launched in 2003 quickly became the brand's best-selling car. A face-lifted version was added in 2006.
The all-new car's characteristics blend sporty driving and dynamic design, together with top class environmental and safety performance.
Global sales of the Mazda3 now stand at over two million.
