Times are really tough in the Irish motor trade, and the registration of some 43,637 units to 10 June represents a 63 percent drop in sales compared to the same period last year.
But in the 'green shoots' business, at least Skoda is managing to raise a bit of a smile, having pushed itself up the 'leader board' from 11th to 7th place in brand sales here.
"While this is clearly an exceptionally difficult market for all brands, for Skoda, the continued success of both the all new Skoda Superb and revised Skoda Octavia has led to an increase in market share to 4.3 percent year-to-date, up from 3.0 percent in 2008," says Skoda Ireland marketing manager Raymond Leddy. "It looks like we're the wise choice in these difficult times!"
