Ford's new EcoBoost petrol engines range will start with a 1.6 unit likely to find its way into the Mondeo first, rated at 180hp.
The engines are direct injection and turbocharged, and will also be delivered in 130hp and 150hp variants.
They will underpin the powertrain choices in the new Focus, scheduled to launch at Geneva 2010 in March.
Ford has already debuted the technology in the US in a 3.5 V6, but the European engines will be four cylinder and built in Wales.
The engine has been showcased in the the Iosis-Max, Lincoln Concept C and Volvo S60 concepts.
A new PowerShift dual clutch gearbox will also be available.
