It has been a big year for the hotel and the award will sit proudly alongside the AA Hotel of the Year 2009 award and the Best Leinster Hotel 2009 in the Irish Consumer Travel Awards.
Meanwhile, last August Macreddin Village and Armento Village in Southern Italy, were officially twinned.
Originating with a romance between a local girl and boy from the respective communities, Armento, and its environs, has been providing Macreddin with organic produce for a number of years and even lent its name, and cooking expertise, to the hotel's Italian Taverna. To celebrate the strong, and commercially important, links, 30 Armentesi (residents of Armento), including their Mayor, were visiting us for the official twinning.
