
Nissan has begun its global marketing campaign for the Leaf EV compact family hatch, which will go on sale in Ireland in March 2011.
According to the company, the cost of the Leaf will be 'within 1-2 percent of the purchase price of a standard hatch in the segment.
Decisions will be made in different markets as to whether owners will lease or buy batteries. The former is the preference of Nissan, who say customers will then be able to upgrade batteries during the life of the car.
Nissan is working with the ESB here on a partnership project with Renault to set up a charging infrastructure for EVs.
