Peugeot improves 1.6 diesel

Peugeot has produced a significantly improved version of its 1.6 diesel engine.

Although just 2hp more in power output, the torque has been substantially uprated from 260Nm to 285Nm.

Technical improvements to the power unit are similar to those introduced in the 2.0 and 3.0 diesel engines launched a little time ago and include a lower compression ratio, wider combustion chamber, and reduced air movement in the chamber.

A new injection system from Continental Automotive provides increased pressure and better fuel-air mixing.

The engine will appear first in the 308CC.
