Fiat is to put a 2-cylinder engine in the 500 this summer.
The 900cc unit uses the company's TwinAir fuel saving technology and will output 85hp.
It will produce less than 100g/km.
Fiat used 2-cylinder engines in the 1936 Topolino, the 1957 500, and the 1991 Cinquecento.
