Quarter of death payouts were road accidents

Over a quarter (27%) of all accidental death claims paid out by Irish Life in 2009 were as a result of road traffic accidents new statistics published by Irish Life reveal.

A total of €5 million was paid out to families or dependants as a result of road traffic accidents.

The majority (83%) of all road traffic accident deaths were male.

Alcohol was a factor in one in six accidental or sudden deaths claims, the majority of which were road traffic accident related.
