RSA at Mondello this weekend

This Saturday and Sunday Mondello Park will be the venue for the first ever Rallysport Association (RSA) Rallysprint in the Republic of Ireland which will also be the inaugural inter-provincial rally competition.

The Rallysport Association was set up by Alan Hyde to provide a viable, alternative and affordable form of motorsport to Rally competitors and this year celebrates its tenth anniversary. The RSA has been providing their brand of Rallysprint competition to Northern Irish competitors at a variety of venues since 2000 and now bring their popular event format to Kildare for the first time.

The format for the first ever RSA even at Mondello Park will see two separate competitions run with an overall winner being declared on both Saturday and Sunday. Competitors will compete as individuals but with the added twist that the top ten on each day will score points for their province with the aim of being crowned the first Irish Interprovincial Rallysprint Champions.

The Sprint will use two different ‘Stages’ with the full International track, including the addition of chicanes, being used in both directions. Each stage will be run over two laps of the track with a minimum of six runs being undertaken on each day. The event format coupled with the value for money entry fee has attracted a huge number of drivers with more than 170 cars entered for each day.

The opening stage will run from 10:30 on Saturday morning and the circuit will remain live until 17:00 with no lunch break. A minimum of six stages, and more if possible, will be run off within that time and with up to twenty cars on track at a go the circuit will be extremely busy throughout. Admission will be €15 each day for adults, children under 16 will be admitted free.
