Volvo's frugal big cars

Volvo Ireland has announced the first large premium cars to be available in Band A for CO2 tax.

The Volvo S80 and V70 DRIVe variants will now produce 119g/km of CO2 thanks to intelligent battery recharging whereby the control system only allows the alternator to charge the battery when the engine is operating at low load, for instance when driving downhill, and also reduced friction for the belt that drives the alternator and air conditioning compressor.

The cars are powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine and manual gearbox. They have a power output of 109hp and maximum torque is 240 Nm.

Volvo dealers in Ireland are hosting an Open Weekend this coming Saturday and Sunday.
