Auris HSD could make Toyota cleanest

Toyota plans to sell 14,000 units of its new Auris hybrid this year, and up to 30,000 units next year.

The British-built variant of the brand's compact hatch went into production this week for deliveries that start in July.

Toyota says it expects the hybrid to account for a quarter of all Auris sales in Europe.

Toyota is number two in terms of fleet average emissions in Europe, behind Fiat. The company hopes that strong sales of the Auris HSD will bring it into first position.
