Sales of new cars have generated €430m in VAT and VRT this year so far, some €60m more than for the same period last year.
Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry today also show that over 21,000 more cars have been sold so far this year than in the same period last year, and 10,000 more than for the whole of last year.
SIMI says the increase in business activity is already having a positive knock-on effect to the wider economy in increased government revenue and job protection in the motor industry.
