Mitsubishi Ireland launches a new compact crossover tomorrow, the ASX, which will compete directly with the biggest seller in the segment, Nissan's Qashqai.
The vehicle will be available in one level of specification with two engine choices, a 1.6 petrol and 1.8 diesel. Power outputs are respectively 117/150hp, and the car is rated for CO2 tax bands B and C.
The brand new diesel features Mitsubishi's variable valve timing system, the first time such technology has been used in a diesel passenger car, according to the company.
The safety systems of the ASX have been designed to achieve a 5-star ENCAP rating, and include driver's knee protection in its seven airbags complement.
Mitsubishi Ireland expects to sell 500 units of the ASX in 2011.
The ASX prices are €23,675 for the petrol car and €25,550 for the diesel.
The company will also be offering the new diesel in its Lancer compact hatch and saloon next month, where it will be rated as a Band B car.
A new Outlander will come on stream in November with a 2.2 diesel engine sourced from Mitsubishi's global cooperation with Peugeot-Citroen.
