They might be thought of as niche cars, but Nissan Ireland is now confident of selling 1,000 copies of its new Leaf electric family car in 2011 ... provided it can get enough supplies.
The Leaf is a C segment compact family hatchback, due on full sale in Ireland in March. But Nissan Ireland's Paul O'Sullivan says he already has 500 confirmed orders for the car.
It will be the first family EV available in Ireland, and is being launched here simultaneously with Portugal, The Netherlands, and the UK. The car will go on the road in most other European markets, as well as Switzerland, by the end of 2011. The car will be available in all European markets by the end of 2012.
US and Japanese markets will get the car first, in December of this year.
We have driven the near-production version in Lisbon today, and we'll be posting a full review tomorrow.
