The work of Michelin's 'Fill Up With Air' tour of Ireland during the summer is estimated to have saved 700 motorists some €11,000.
The five-location tour checked the motorists' tyres and found that more than 60 percent of cars checked had low pressures, resulting in reduced fuel economy and increased tyre wear.
Michelin suggests that if all motorists made sure their tyres are at the right pressure, it could save €30 million a year on fuel and reduce national CO2 emissions by 58,000 tonnes.
Correct tyre pressures also have an important role in road safety.
