Rallycross 4th Round on Sunday

The Motorsport Ireland National Rallycross Championship is building up momentum as it approaches its mid season break, writes Fergus Brennan, with the County Kildare Motor Club taking charge of round four of the 2010/11 series which is set for Mondello Park this coming Sunday.

Kildare man Tommy Graham is currently the leading light in Irish Rallycross having dominated the 2009/10 season to take his first ever Irish crown. He also leads the 2010/11 championship having taken two wins from the three rounds held so far, driving his 4WD Ford Fiesta Supercar. George Tracey from Mullingar is the other driver to have tasted victory so far this season with his WRC Citroen Xsara.

The two top men will go head to head again this Sunday with a number of other Supercar drivers also in contention including Scottish visitor Andy Scott with his Ford Focus WRC.

While the 4WD Supercars fight for the overall victory the 2WD modified cars will also get stuck in to their own battle for championship honour. Ian O'Connell from Sandyford leads the way here with his Lotus Exige, ahead of the Renault Clio Turbo of Ballymena's James McVicker. This class is always highly competitive and should be even stronger this weekend with the addition of a second Lotus for Wicklow driver Lloyd Spendlove.

The less highly modified cars of the Stockhatch and Junior Rallycross classes, and the Rallycars, round out the days action which will see the completion of three rounds of heats followed by the finals for each class and the all important Superfinal for the fastest eight drivers overall.

Sunday's event gets under way with practice from 9:15. The heats will run from 10:15 with the finals set to get underway at 15:30. Admission is €15 for Adults with under 16's admitted free. Discounted admission is available through the special offers section of the Mondello Park web site and all admission prices include a complimentary event programme.
