The Irish motor trade has welcomed the continuation of the Scrappage Sceheme, which it says will bring in the country some €40 million next year.
Alan Nolan of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry noted that the impact of the scheme in the past year 'exceeded expectations' and helped to bring new car sales to an expected outcome of around 80,500 for 2010.
This gave a boost to the trade which allowed an increase in jobs in the sector of around 3,200 people.
Up to the end of November 16,468 cars were sold under scrappage, giving the Government a net tax take of €57.6 million. Nolan suggested that up to 10,000 scrappage sales could take place during the six months' duration of the extended scheme.
