Chevrolet is hoping that an aggressive pricing programme will help its new Orlando compact MPV make inroads to a market dominated by Renault's Grand Scenic and Opel's Zafira.
The company plans to undercut these by about 15 percent across the European marketplace.
The Orlando is designed to hold five adults and two children in three rows of seats. It is on the same GM platform as the Astra and the Chevy Cruze.
Orlando's launch is part of a programme of new car events for 2011 which includes a revamped Captiva SUV, a hatchback Cruze, and a new Aveo.
No date has been set for its arrival in Ireland, but sales in some European markets begin in March.
There will be a 1.8 petrol engine and a pair of 2.0 diesels outputting 131/163hp.
In Germany it will sell for around €19,000.
