Some 20 brands amongst the cars distributed in Ireland feature this weekend at the Irish Times Motor Show in the RDS, Dublin. Between them, they represent 84 percent of the Irish car sales chart.
Among them are the big hitters, including the various divisions of the Volkswagen Group, Ford, Toyota, Renault, Opel and Nissan. Mazda and Saab are also prominent at the show.
A key element of the show are the cars in the 'Electric Avenue', showcasing the latest in electric and hybrid automotive technology. Among them the new Nissan Leaf, the first compact EV from a mass market manufacturer to go on sale here.
The latest in hybrid cars from Toyota and Lexus include the Prius, and the Lexus CT 200h launched just yesterday as the first car in the compact premium segment with full hybrid drive. It is also a Band A car for tax purposes.
A range of exotic cars from the likes of Ferrari and Porsche will attract many, as will an actual 1966 Ford GT40 sports coupe which achieved legendary status in a relatively short racing life. The Audi TDI Le Mans winner and the same brand's e-Tron concept car are each worth more than a million euros and were brought in especially from Germany for the event.
Admission from €12 and a child accompanied by an adult is free. There's a special kids area where the small people are guided through some of the rules of the road courtesy of Audi, and earn their 'First Driving Licence' in the process.
