Service station planned for M8

Plans for a rest and refuelling stop for motorists travelling between Dublin and Cork has been announced, writes Trish Whelan.

Topaz and McDonald's are to jointly invest €6 million in a new state-of-the-art service station at the Cashel interchange on the Dublin/Cork Motorway. This is one of the busiest routes in the country.

The new services area, the first one to serve motorists on the M8, will create up to 100 jobs.

The site will be located at Junction 8 and will open for business at the end of May. Facilities will include a five-star service area, wi-fi internet access, a hot food buffet and cafe, children's play area, toilets and showers.

The new station area is being built on a 1.75 acre site, and the Topaz shop will be 250m2. Upstairs will have seating for 42 people and there will be parking for up to 40 cars.

Topaz, a fully Irish owned and managed company, has a network of over 300 sites nationwide and has plans to build up to 15 service stations close to the motorway network.
