The issue of insurance 'write-offs' from the UK being sold into the Irish used car market must be tackled as a matter of urgency, according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
SIMI President Eddie Murphy said the current position is 'intolerable' when speaking to members of the organisation last week.
He noted that the Road Safety Authority was working on a system of classifying write-offs and damaged vehicles, and this should be implemented urgently, he said.
"2010 was the fifth year in a row when we witnessed a fall in road deaths. However, the fight to make our roads safer places will never cease."
