TomTom upgrades traffic information service

Sat-Nav maker TomTom has launched a new version of its real-time traffic information system here, claiming wider coverage and greater accuracy.

The TomTom HD 5.0 system works with TomTom Live devices, and the maker says drivers using it can now have greater control over their journeys as well as better rerouting to avoid problems.

The latest version includes automatic road closures, pinpointing the exact section of the route that’s disrupted. Improved standstill detection during road blocks caused by accidents makes it even easier to locate and avoid traffic jams.

According to the Irish distributors, TomTom HD Traffic 5.0 can report jams in the whole road network even on exit roads, slip roads and minor roads that aren’t covered by other technologies.

Drivers who already have a subscription to TomTom HD Traffic will automatically receive the update directly to their device. More details on www.tomtom.com/services.
