In response to increasing waiting times at airport immigration desks, the US Customs & Border Protection service has introduced an ‘express connection’ facility at 11 airports, including Newark, JFK, Los Angeles and Miami. It allows airlines to identify passengers with tight connections and expedite their screening.
These and nine other airports have also appointed dedicated passenger service managers to deal with such concerns of travellers, as part of a 'Model Airports' programme.
The managers' phone numbers are listed in the relevant waiting halls ... in the same areas which have equally prominent signs that forbid the use of cellphones while passengers are waiting to be processed.
