Frankfurt Motor Show 2011
Listen, there's no buzz quite like the atmosphere of an international motor show, write Brian Byrne & Trish Whelan. Especially on the press days, when every carmaker is trying to grab the attention of thousands of automotive journalists, photographers and TV crews.
And those same journalists are jostling with each other to get the best photograph, or video position, or to get into the latest model and see if somehow the maker has hit a sweet spot with a new interior.
This year it’s Frankfurt, the bi-annual cars showcase in the biggest car market in Europe. The Germans, naturally, have the biggest spaces, but every other nationality also finds a place amongst the almost dozen halls in the Frankfurt Messe.
Pictured above (from top) are the BMW i3 concept electric car, a Chevrolet concept spider called Miray, the new BMW M5, Opel's Astra GTC, the new Mini Coupe and the revised Toyota Avensis.
Citroen Tubik concept compact MPV, Peugeot EX1 concept EV, Peugeot 508 RXH diesel hybrid AWD, New Toyota Yaris, Citroen DS5 and Lexus GS.
Revised Toyota Yaris, Ford's Evos concept in transformer mode, new Opel Astra GTC, strangely parked new Honda Civic, Opel Zafira Lounge and new BMW 1 Series.
Some oldies: Volvo 1800S, a 1940s Chevrolet, late 1950s Chevy Bel Air COnvertible and a 1961 Renault Floride.
New Hyundai i20, revised Kia Soul, Alfa Romeo 4C concept, Kia GT concept, Kia Rio 3-door, and Mazda CX-5.
Renault Frendzy minivan concept, Volkswagen's new Up!, Suzuki Swift Sport, Bentley Continental GTC Convertible, the new VW Beetle, and new Porsche 911 Carrera S.
