A 100hp version of the new Volkswagen up! city car will be available as a 'GTi' variant of the company's small baby, writes Brian Byrne.
The car will probably be rolled out in 2014 while other versions, including the zero emissions EV e-up!, will be available in 2013.
The recently press-launched in Europe up!—scheduled to arrive in Ireland in March of 2012—has the biggest interior in the city car class, and also boasts the best boot space in class in the 3.5 metre car.
In Ireland it will compete in a very small segment, but one which across Europe is worth up to 25 percent of sales in some markets, such as Denmark.
The company expects its entry into a new segment will result into a conquest performance of 33 percent of its customers new to the brand.
