The Society of the Irish Motor Industry has urged the government not to hit car drivers with more taxes in the upcoming budget.
Alan Nolan of SIMI says "While nearly 34,000 people benefited from Scrappage, there are two million cars on our roads and many of these people are finding it difficult to fund the running costs of their car.
He warned any more motor related taxation would impact very negatively on the motorist, on jobs and, consequently, on Government revenues.
Figures from the SIMI show that while new car sales are up 5pc on last year (the Scrappage stopped end of June), sales for September were down by 35pc compared to the same month last year.
