Skoda to start manufacture of its Citigo small car

Skoda's Czech manufacturer will start production of the brand's all-new Citigo small car at its facility in Bratislava, Slovakia at the end of this year, writes Trish Whelan.

The car will be introduced in the Czech Republic first, initially as a three-door model, with a five-door variant appearing early in 2012. A pan-European roll-out will follow next summer and will include Ireland.

The Citigo opens up the important small car market for Skoda. It is 3.l56 metros long, 1.65 metros wide and 1.48 high, and is among the most compact models in the segment. But it offers space for four adults to travel in comfort.

It will be powered by a 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine developing 60 and 75bhp.
