A hybrid version of Mitsubishi's Outlander is due to go on sale in some markets during the next 18 months,
writes Brian Byrne.
A concept car to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show will highlight the hybrid system, based on a 2.0 petrol engine for the front wheels and a lithium-ion battery powered motor for the rear wheels.
The vehicle will be a plug-in one, with an EV range estimated at 31 miles.
