The new generation Hyundai i30 goes on sale from Thursday at a starting price of €17,995, writes Brian Byrne.
Totally restyled, the car will come in two grades, with a 1.4 petrol option as well as 1.4 and 1.6 diesels. All three are Band A. There is also an automatic option.
Hyundai Ireland is banking on the growing brand impetus as well as very high standard specifications when measured against key competitors like Ford’s Focus, VW’s Golf and Toyota’s Auris.
The car’s arrival will boost the Irish distributor’s performance, already accelerating because of the success of key models like the ix35 and the i40. January sales figures show it with almost 6 percent market share, and the company is targeting 8 percent in 2013.
