Five safety stars for New Peugeot 208

The new Peugeot 208, due for launch in Ireland on 30 June, has been awarded five stars by Euro NCAP.

The car is the first in its segment to obtain five stars, the highest rating possible.

The 208 will have as standard, ABS, ESP, six airbags, rear Isofix fixings, speed limiter, front seat belt warning and a collapsible steering column. It is made of aluminium absorption beams and ultra strength steel to ensure occupant protection.

The unique driving position also makes for more secure driving. Raising the instrument panel to eye level minimises the time that the driver's eyes leave the road to check information and so reduces the chances of a collision. And the small steering wheel gives better road control.

Smaller on the outside, but bigger on the inside than its predecessor 207, the car is also 110kg lighter, meaning lower C02 results, very good fuel consumption and lower running costs.

Prices and standard equipment for the new 208 will be announced closer to the launch.
