Ford wins 'Engine of the Year 2012'

A new 3-cylinder petrol engine developed by Ford has won the 2012 'International Engine of the Year' award, writes Brian Byrne.

The engine uses Ford's EcoBoost technology to achieve high outputs and economy and was introduced earlier this year as a powertrain option in the Focus compact family car range. That model will arrive in Ireland in July.

The engine also won 'Best New Engine' and 'Best Engine under 1.0-litre' categories in the awards, which have been running for 13 years.
