Most Irish fans spending up to €2,000 on Poland trip

A survey by Continental Tyres, official sponsor of UEFA Euro 2012, shows that Irish fans making the trip to Poland will be shelling out up to €2,000 to shout on the Irish team.

The survey was carried out with the help of ybig.ie discussion forum and was based on the responses from 355 fans. It showed that some 76 percent of fans planning on travelling to Poland will spend up to this amount for the trip. The other 24 percent are obviously taking the five-star option as they say they will spend between €3,000 and €4,000 for the experience.

Some 49 percent of fans say they have budgeted to stay for the three group stage matches and 51 percent plan to stay on if Ireland progresses. The vast majority have booked their own flights and accommodation rather than using a travel company / agent. Ten percent of fans said they will travel to Poland in a van or camper while just a few plan to drive in a car.

Paddy Murphy of Continental Tyres Ireland (pictured) said: "We are delighted to be associated with UEFA Euro 2012.

For those fans either driving to Poland or planning on driving while they are there, we would urge them to keep the craic in its proper places, on the terraces and in the hostelries, but when behind the wheel, to always follow the rules of the road, obey the speed limits and be courteous. And never, ever drink and drive.

"You are representing your country lads!"
