Citroen Motors Ireland has launched its new Berlingo Airdream van which uses the brand's unique new e-HDi Airdream micro-hybrid drivetrain, writes Trish Whelan.
This drivetrain delivers a combined cycle fuel efficiency of up to 4.7 L/100km and has C02 emissions as low as 123g/km. The drivetrain incorporates the latest Euro HDi 90 diesel engine, and is equipped with Stop & Start technology. The system also benefits from regenerative braking to recover and store energy that would otherwise be lost when slowing down.
In addition, the Berlingo Airdream drivetrain incorporates Citroen's EGS6 automated manual gearbox which helps with fuel efficiency and also provides the benefits of two pedal driving, with a choice of automatic or manual (by steering column mounted paddles) shift modes.
Fuel efficiency is improved by up to 15 percent in city driving, and C02 emissions have been reduced by up to 17g/km.
Two versions are offered, the L1 625 LX and the L2 750 LX, priced from €13,045 ex VAT, and €16,055 inc VAT.
The new van comes with a wider grille, new chevron badge and a new headlight layout. The latest Berlingo models also have more aerodynamic door mirrors to help reduce fuel consumption and lower C02 emissions.
The Berlingo is Citroen's best-selling LCV.
