New Suzuki crossover next year

Suzuki plans to introduce a production version of its S-Cross Concept by the end of next year, writes Trish Whelan.

The car is shown in concept form at the Paris Motor Show, the press days of which are today and tomorrow.

Suggesting that the vehicle will be the 'perfect car' for an urban lifestyle, Suzuki's Kenichi Ayukawa said the new car will help the company to meet an even wider range of customers across the A, Band C segments.

On a downbeat note, he reported that Suzuki's sales Europeam volume was down in 2011 by 4 percent, reflecting the sluggish demand and intense competition in the European marketplace.

But he said the company will be bringing new models every year from next year to help bring back European sales levels to over 300,000 units 'in a short time'.

Suzuki's global sales volumes of 2.5m units last year is expected to gtow to 2.8m units this year.

As part of the improvement strategy the Splash, Jimny and Grand Vitara have all been refreshed this year.
