Peugeot Sport is opening a new chapter in its history with the unveiling of the 208 Type R5 at the Paris Motor Show next week.
The R5 category consists of group A vehicles derived from production models, 25,000 of which must have been produced.
Flagged as 'a true competition wildcat', it will replace the 207 Super 2000, benchmark of the S2000 category. Built for tarmac and gravel, the 208 Type R5 1.6 280bhp will go on sale in the second half of 2013 and compete in its first rallies from then, with an aim of conquering national and international championships the following season.
It benefits from all the expertise and experience of Peugeot Sport derived from the 207 Super 2000, which had a superb record in its category of six intercontinental rally titles, many crowns in national championships and numerous victories worldwide including San Remo, the Tour de Corse and the Monte Carlo.
It also benefits from the same improvements seen on the 208 production car particularly with regard to weight.
